How I created a Matisse Cut Out and Patchwork Square
My story:
In both my patch work quilt and my matisse cut out my story was about the first time i came to Dubai, i have seen all the tall and fancy buildings and i was extremely amazed as in Egypt the buildings weren't very tall. I also saw the colorful and fancy cars all around the road.
How did i create the matisse's cut out:
It was an extremely new experience as it was my first time making the matisses cut out and the first time doing anything only using scissors as we are not allowed to draw first.I had to think of an idea that shows/expresses an idea as all matisses cut out have to express something. I then started cutting out all the shapes i needed; these included Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab and many other buildings. I then stuck them neatly using normal glue and i finally reached my goal as the final cut out showed and expressed a meaning.
How did i create the patch work quilt:
I took the same idea as my matisses cut out but this time instead of paper fabric was needed. This made my task quite harder as when i was cutting it didnt cut out very straight. It took me some time cutting the buildings and shapes in the neatest way possible and after some tries i reached my goal and finally stuck the buildings neatly using super glue and the patchwork quilt was completed.
What did i enjoy:
I really enjoyed the task as it was a new experience as i've never tried it before. I also enjoyed making a story i really liked as it reminded me with great memories from the past. It also made me think more creatively as i couldn't trace it before cutting it out.
What were the problems i had to overcome:
It was my first time making patchwork quilts and matisses cut out which meant i wasnt an expert. I had some problems while cutting the shapes because they didn't turn out the way i wanted. Some time they were longer and show times shorter but i identified my problems i was facing, improved them and created them the way i wanted.
Does my final composition tell my story:
Yes, this is shown as i've added the biggest and most famous landmarks in Dubai which shows that i am in dubai, i've also added clouds next to burj khalifa to make the audience sure that this building is burj khalifa.
How could i have improved:
I couldve added depth in the story to make it look more realistic and interesting for me and the audience. I could also add something in the sky like stars to make it more full and interesting, also to show and express a good meaning and story to all the audiences.
How did i use each arts criteria in making my work:
Criteria A: Knowing and understanding
I've used the knowledge i have gained from making the matisses cut out and the patch work quilt power point to complete my work. I used this when i had to think of an idea as i remembered that the final product must show a meaning so i had to think of an idea that shows a meaning.
Criteria B: Developing skills:
It was a new task for me so everything i did was actually developing new skills but the main skills i've developed were creativity as i was not allowed to trace before cutting so i had to picture it in my head, i also was more confident and independent as i did it all alone and i had to try many new things.
Criteria C: Thinking creatively
I had to think creatively as i couldnt just think of any random idea i had to think of a good, unique idea that expresses a good meaning. I also had to be very creative to fill out the blank spaces and had to be creative when making/ cutting the buildings as i had to think of a way that will make them look very realistic.
Criteria D: Responding
This was important as i did many mistakes and to fix them and do them correct the next time i had to evaluate and respond. This was exactly what i did i also had to connect this product with art so i had to choose good and contrasting colors.
What levels would i award my self and why:
Criteria A:
Excellent as i have used all my knowledge about patchwork quilts and matisses cutout to produce a product that has everything a matisses cut our or patch work quilt will have. Level 8
Criteria B:
Substantial- excellent as i have developed many skills during this task but could have developed more. I also could have presented my work in a more artistic way. Level 6-7
Criteria C:
Substantial as i was very creative but couldve been more creative by adding depth in my work. Level 6
Criteria D:
Substantial -excellent as i did many mistakes but responded to them and fixed them. I could have used more contrasting colors.Level 6-7

"We love drama"
In groups of 2-3 we had to spell out "We love drama". I worked with Christopher and Yahia. We worked together very well which made creating the sentence easier. Making the sentence wasn't very hard as we all listened to each others ideas and understood all the ideas very well. While making it usually 1-2 people act out the letter while the third takes the picture. We took each letter one by one which also made it easier. At the end the pictures were great. We downloaded photo grid to put all the letters together then the words to finish the sentence. We put the letters and words together and completed the sentence. The background wasn't very colorful so we thought of being creative and added a purple dotty background which made it look creative and fancy. To make it even fancier and more creative we added two happy faces in the sides of the picture. Happily and fortunately our product was great at the end and we were very proud of our good work and the way we worked together.

The box
Reflection:
For our play the goal was to try to show a game while not talking as it is physical theatre. Our game was to sit on the box and try to push each other from the box and at the end whoever is on the box wins. In our play I was the winner.
I think most the groups where successful but Rakans group and Alex group kept on doing the same action which at the end made it a little bit boring. Overall i think all the groups did a very good job.

Our play-Orpheus and bob
Reflection: We had to make our play based on the story of orpheus and euridyce. I worked with Christopher, Omar, Yahia and Kaisan. We already had 4 scenes but we're allowed to use some creative this time. So we changed one of the characters (only name and gender) and changed the ending. It wasn't really hard creating the four scenes as all of us got the idea and understood the concept clearly. In terms of using Greek theatre elements we used chorus and unison. Most of the examples of chorus work was shown/ used by me and Christopher. We showed these examples when we were doing the part of the 2 snakes and the 2 headed dog. Some of us also used Greek masks which is also using Greek elements. Our group worked extremely well and we collaborated very nicely. No one really messed about and everyone gave contribution which led to this creative play. I think our group do pretty well and all worked very hard to complete this play.
What is physical theatre
What I think: Is using body language and sounds to communicate while completing a play instead of talking.
What it really is: a form of theatre which emphasizes the use of physical movement as in dance and mimed for expression. This theatre of the body features performers who appear to manipulate time and space in a live environment.

Reflection on my scene!
This play was a great experience, I had to work with people I've never worked with before. My group was consisted of 4 people including me: Me, Rakan, Ban and Emma. It was really nice creating the scene so first we watched a quick animated video of Oedipus and the Sphinx. Then Mrs divided the class into groups and each group had to perform a scene. We were chosen to do the part were Oedipus finds out the truth. In my group I was chosen to be the main character, Oedipus. So we wrote our script and started to practice, it went out pretty well in the practice but we also had to add some chorus work and that was pretty much the most/only difficult part as some of the people were forgetting these line or mixing them up. After many practices we kind of made our scene perfect. Another thing that was new to me was the fact that we had to perform with masks; ones that we made. It was pretty difficult, fun and challenging as the masks were pretty tight on our faces and it was kind of hard to act while wearing them as our voices had to be louder than usual as the masks were mostly covering our whole face which would obviously make our voices lower. At the end it was really successful.

Oedipus and the sphinx
After answering the sphinx riddle, Oedipus reached Thebes. He was welcomed by Creon, Jocasta's brother and his uncle who was a Temperor king after Laius' death. He had said that anyone who answers the sphinx riddle would become king and marry Jocasta. So Oedipus married his own mother and they had 4 children : Eteocles, Polynices, Antigone and Ismene. Years later, a plague was brought upon the city of Thebes, so Oedipus sent Creon to find out what the reasons are. He found out that it all happened because the killer of Laius had not been taken to justice. Oedipus asked the prophet Tiresias to find out who had killed Laius. He was forced to say that Oedipus was the one who killed Laius and that he married his mother as he was first adopted. Oedipus then realised that he was the one who killed his father years ago, and that he had married his mother. Oedipus tried to find Jocasta who had fled moments earlier, only to find that she hanged herself. He then took a brooch from her gown, and using the pin, he pricked his eyes and blinded himself. His daughter Antigone guided him for the last few years of his life.
